  1. Our sixth stay at Eastcroft, and we had to drag ourselves away again!
It gets harder and harder every time to leave this perfect spot on our paradise island.
The wildlife was once again amazing, you don't have to go any further than the bench outside the cottage to witness all the wonders Mull can offer including sights of the local Sea Eagles everyday, Buzzards, Ravens, Hen Harriers, Short Eared Owls, Osprey, Curlew, Oyster Catchers, Herons, a multitude of Gulls, waders, and all the birds that visit the feeders outside, Coal Tits, Chaffinch, Great Tits, Blue Tits, Dunnock, Green Finch and many more.
The Red Deer were also a permanent fixture on the hills on the way to Grasspoint.
We once again visited all our usual favourite sights on the Island and a few new ones...but as always were drawn back to the lovely Lochdon and the homely feel of Eastcroft.

Thank you once again Carol & Angus.
And yes...we have already booked for next year!

  2. Just returned from our fifth stay at Eastcroft...our "Home from Home". Eastcroft is as warm and cosy as ever and the perfect sanctuary to enjoy this wonderful Island from. We once again explored the delights Mull has to offer, visiting old favourite locations..Calgary, Dervaig, Tobermory, Loch Nakeal, Salen, Loch Spelve, as well as discovering some new spots to soak up the views and watch the amazing wildlife. Loch Buie is well worth a visit, we where fortunate enough to see a pair of otters just off the coast. Probably our most stunning find is the amazing Loch Ba. Stunning views, very tranquil, and we were blessed to see the resident Sea Eagle pair within 5 minutes of walking down the path!
However, our favourite location is still the bench outside Eastcroft. It has it all, the view, the peacefulness, all the wildlife you could hope for...and a cup of tea just a few steps away! We were fortunate enough to see all the usual delights of nature that can be enjoyed on your doorstep including Short Eared Owls, Male and Female Hen Harrier, Ravens, Curlews, Oyster Catchers, even the Osprey made a brief appearance over Lochdon at 9.30 one night!
We were sad to find out that the resident pair of Sea Eagles on Lochdon are no longer with us. Having spent the last 7 years watching them (mainly sitting on rocks!) in their Lochdon territory, we felt like we were returning to old friends each time we visited. Our spirits were lifted when we learned that a new pair of younger Eagles had inherited the territory of Lochdon...and after a couple of days actually saw them both soaring over the cottage. We then saw them almost every day in the vicinity, and a new friendship has begun.
Lochdon is a small, friendly community, and Eastcroft is perfectly situated to make you feel a part of it...whether you are there in body...or spirit!
Thank you once again Carol and Angus
P.S. We have already booked again for next year!

  4. We’ve just had to drag ourselves back from our fourth stay at Eastcroft, in the perfect location of Lochdon. Although the weather wasn’t great (you don’t go to Mull for a tan!), it didn’t stop us exploring the island and all its hidden secrets. We have to admit that although we love every inch of the island, the spot on the bench outside the cottage is still our favorite! Once again we enjoyed the wonderful wildlife that Mull has to offer, with regular sightings of the Sea Eagle pair at Loch NaKeal, Dolphins following us on the Ferry from Oban, but it is on and around Lochdon that we had our most wonderful nature experiences; hours watching the resident Lochdon Sea Eagles sitting on a rock (and flying occasionally!), Short Eared Owls, Male and Female Hen Harrier, Ravens, Curlews, Oyster Catchers, Red Deer (male, female and fawns), and regular visits from an Osprey, which we watched sitting on a fence post until twenty to eleven one night!
We will definitely be back…tomorrow if we could…and one day hopefully we won’t have to leave….

Thank you once again Carol & Angus

  5. Great cottage in a brilliant location. The early morning reflections over the loch in full tide under a clear sky were very special. Wildlife everywhere, from the swallows nesting in the porch to the constant sound of Oystercatchers and Curlew. From the loch area we saw male Hen Harrier, Buzzard, Herons, Oystercatchers, Curlew and Red Deer to name a few. Sand Martin colony at Gorton. On the rest of Mull we saw Golden Eagle, White Tail Sea Eagle on Martin's Mull Charter and loads of others. Beautiful views with fantastic weather all week. Would definitely return.

  7. It's been our third visit to the lovely Eastcroft and the wonderfully peaceful location of Lochdon. The moment we left the island we were planning our next trip and stay at Eastcroft. It continues to be our home from home with all the comforts you need to be able to relax and enjoy the stunning scenery and fabulous wildlife on your doorstep. We could never tire of looking out of the windows, or sitting on the bench looking at the views of Lochdon and the nature all around. On this visit we had the pleasure of seeing all our usual guest's including the resident Lochdon Sea Eagles along with regular sightings of the Hen Harrier pair...and even an otter encounter down at Loch side at 11 o'clock at night..it really does never get truly dark! Thank you once again Carol and Angus, and God willing we will be back again soon.

  8. We have just returned from a glorious week in Eastcroft. It's cosiness and location were ideal for the rain and sunshine week. We know the mainland well but it's our first time on Mull. We were thrilled by the peace, the space and all the wonderful wildlife we saw.We had no idea of the grandeur of the scenery around Ben More!We will miss the view across the loch - different all the time. The area immediately asks you to SLOW down and we did, although looking at our 'log' we thoroughly enjoyed all our expedions.
Water - an ever changing sky - sunshine - sea air - a huge variety of wildlife and Eastcroft cottage! What more could you want. Hopefully we'll be back. Thank you

  9. We have just spent our first week on Mull. Eastcroft is a beautiful well equipped perfect base for exploring this magical island. Red deer were in abundance and visited the garden every evening as we returned to the cottage at 10pm after otter watching down at Grasspoint. We spent all morning at one site on Loch Na Keal where we couldn't decide what to watch!! An otter swimming past, a white tailed sea eagle returning with a fish to sit up in his tree or a golden eagle souring above us with three buzzards soaring above him. FANTASTIC. The boys Rusty the Vizsla and Buster the Weimaraner loved the garden where they kept finding frogs to keep them amused!! We saw Hen Harriers, Short Eared Owls, Merlin, Kestrel, Peregrine, not to mention numerous divers, waders, finches, tits etc etc. We will be returning to Mull and would definitely book Eastcroft again. Thank You so much for sharing your little gem of a cottage for others to relax and explore magical Mull.

  10. What a fantastic holiday - seven days of blue skies and warm sunshine, Eastcroft is a really stunning base to explore Mull, cosy, comfortable and very well equipped.
We saw more Red deer around the shore and the island than people, a huge variety of wild flowers.
A peaceful and relaxed island well illustrated when returning to Eastcroft from Craignure a highways man in high vis jacket stopped the car and wondered if we would just like to turn around and get a wee coffee until they finished resurfacing the road !!! Happy to comply - the wee coffee shop sold lovely cakes!

  11. We have just returned from our first holiday on Mull staying at the wonderfully cosy cottage of Eastcroft and it was FANTASTIC! Having been there for two weeks, we need to return again, as there are still things left that we did not have time to do. We saw much of the island and can honestly say that Lochdon is the perfect location and base on Mull, it really is lovely.
From the cottage we saw Red Deer, no more than 20 feet way, Voles and Bats, Buzzards, a Hen Harrier, a Sparrow hawk and a couple of Sea Eagles. Not to mention the Curlews and other wading birds when the tide is out.
The Weather was extremely kind, with only one day that you would call a write off and even then we took the short drive to Duart Castle. It did get chilly in the evenings, but once the open fire was blazing away we were quickly warm and cosy!
The cottage is extremely well equipped and we wanted for the nothing.
We would recommend Eastcroft to anybody wanting to get away from it all and at the same time explore a beautiful part of the UK. We will definately be back!

  15. We thoroughly enjoyed first visit to Mull and our stay at Eastcroft, which we found to be very comfortable. The dogs also had a very good week. We really enjoyed seeing all the varied wildlife which included: Red Deer just outside the door; Otters at Loch Na Keal, and of course the Sea Eagles at the RSPB hide. We are now planning our next visit.

  17. Really enjoyed our stay at Eastcroft. Cottage well equipped and comfortable. Weather not kind to us but the lovely log fires helped a lot as did the wild life particularly the voles which we have never seen so close before. Wonderful location well placed within easy reach of the ferry and very central giving easy access to the whole Island and Iona

  18. Had a wonderful two weeks on Mull, made all the better by choosing the right and best accommodation. Very well appointed, home from home (once we had found where everything was) and there was everything. We would have no hesitation in recommending Eastcroft, the situation was perfect, a little bit bare when the tide was out but at high tide, no better situation. Plenty of birdlife, in particular Sea Eagles, saw one or two daily. We had just one day of rain but it cleared early evening so we got out. For a well placed and comfortable cottage, you will love Eascroft.
